1. AERIAL YOGA

(90 mins)

Explore the joy of exercising whilst airborne. Take your practise off the mat and into the air…. Let’s fly!

Aerial Yoga is an innovative type of Yoga using a low hanging, soft suspended fabric hammock to aid traditional yoga postures by supporting your body weight.

The weight of the body is supported, encouraging students to achieve more aligned postures through relaxation and breathing. Enhancing a relaxed and peaceful state of mind and body, while working to refine and advance traditional asanas, both in the air and on the ground.

The hammock supports the student allowing beginners to practise safely and to attempt deeper movement within the postures. In addition to this a greater level of strength is also achieved as students learn to lift their own body weight in the hammock. 

The weightlessness removes compression from the spine and provides greater comfort and freedom of movement. Poses that may have been restrictive in other yoga classes will start to be more accessible.

Uniquely developed for beginners through to all levels of yoga experience. No previous aerial, acrobatic, or yoga experience is required.

2. ASHTANGA 

(90 mins)

A CLASS FOR EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO EXPERIENCE THIS DYNAMIC FORM OF ASHTANGA YOGA WITH A STRONG GROUP ENERGY. THE CLASSES WILL FOCUS IN PARTICULAR ON VINYASA (BREATH MOVEMENT SYSTEM) AS WELL AS THE IMPORTANCE OF FOUNDATION, BANDHA AND ALIGNMENT IN EACH ASANA (POSTURE) AND ARE GEARED TO BUILD STAMINA, STRENGTH AND TO LEARN THE PRIMARY SERIES SEQUENCE. THERE WILL BE EMPHASIS ON DIFFERENT ELEMENTS EACH WEEK, TO ENABLE STUDENTS TO DEEPEN THEIR EXPERIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRACTISE, PREPARING THEM FOR SELF PRACTISE CLASSES.  

SOMETIMES THE FIRST HALF OF THE CLASS WILL BE ‘COUNTED’ IN THE TRADITIONAL WAY AS TAUGHT IN INDIA IN WHICH STUDENTS ARE LED IN SANSKIRT THROUGH PART OF THE PRIMARY SERIES. THE CLASS MAY BE MORE WORKSHOP BASED AND SOME PARTNER OR GROUP WORK MAY BE ADDED FROM TIME TO TIME.

3. MYSORE

'Mysore' is the traditional way of learning Ashtanga yoga and is named after the Indian city where Phattabi Jois lived.  Mysore is a self-led practice, through Ashtanga postures (also called Asanas).  This "self-practice" is performed under the guidance of a highly experienced teacher, who helps the student advance through the series by teaching new asanas when it is safe to do so.

When you practice Ashtanga yoga in a Mysore style, you face and overcome new challenges every time you step on the mat.  Sometimes they are physical, like learning a new asana.  And sometimes they are mental.  At the end of practice, you walk out knowing that you accomplished something unique and important to yourself.  

The teachers will interact with you on a 1-on-1 basis to help teach you the practice and progress you as required.  You don't need to know anything to start either, sometime its even better that way!  In a Mysore setting, teachers can show you modified postures that will help promote healing of old injuries, and prevention of new ones.

4. IYENGAR

(90 mins)

B.K.S IYENGAR WAS ONE OF THE WORLD’S LEADING YOGA TEACHERS. HE PASSED AWAY ON THE 20TH AUGUST 2014 AFTER 70 YEARS OF TEACHING. HIS DAUGHTER GEETA AND SON PRASHANT CONTINUE HIS WORK.

HIS UNIQUE HOLISTIC APPROACH HAS A STRENGTHENING AND CALMING IMPACT ON THE WHOLE PERSON, INTEGRATING THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL PLANE AND BRINGING INNER AND OUTER BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT.

IYENGAR’S INNOVATIVE USE OF SIMPLE PROPS ENABLES PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS E.G. STIFFNESS, INJURY, FATIGUE OR ILLNESS TO PRACTISE THE CLASSICAL POSTURES MORE EASILY AND EFFECTIVELY. A PROP IS ANY OBJECT WHICH HELPS TO STRETCH, STRENGTHEN, RELAX OR IMPROVE THE ALIGNMENT OF THE BODY.

B.K.S IYENGAR WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TEACHERS TO INTRODUCE YOGA TO THE WEST AND NOW THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CENTRES AROUND THE WORLD WHERE IYENGAR YOGA IS TAUGHT – HE WAS NAMED AS ONE OF TIME MAGAZINES MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD AND AWARDED THE PADMA VIBHUSHAN BY THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA.

5. YOGA BANANAS - Age 3 to 11 years

Children's Yoga classes with a fun approach that incorporates all the elements of Hatha Yoga in a form that appeals to children.  Great for confidence, calmness and stillness of the mind - they are never to young to start!

Class runs in conjunction with the Tuesday night hot Power Hour class so that adults and children can both enjoy yoga at the same time.
